Just received back the custom graphics I designed for my tough little 1995 Honda XR600R. Thanks to James for printing the tank and rear plastics vinyl and to StickerApp for the small detail pieces including the swing arm branding.
It was an effort to get here. I bought one bike and blew the engine up first ride because of a false dipstick reading for the oil. I then ended up with this nugget, Leo, which ran well but needed some love. Having never touched a wrench before it was daunting to pick one up and get to work.
The challenge was welcome. I’ve now rebuilt the brakes, rear master cylinder and calliper then front master cylinder and calliper, replacing the stator, rewiring the bike with a new loom and indicators, cleaning then tuning the carby, new accelerator cable and assembly, replacing the rear swing arm and all the rubbers, oiling and replacing the air filter, adjusting the valve clearances, and repainting the plastics and a few other pieces of dicking around, I’d say I’ve got the hang of things.
Desert to DGR 2019
All this has been in preparation for an 8-day 2600km trek I’m taking with my buddies from Coast to Coast, Thursday Bike Night and Maggies Farm. We’re heading up to Lake Eyre back through the Flinders Ranges. On the way, I’ll be recording a documentary about men’s health inspired by the first ride we all took together last year for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride raising funds for Movember. This is about men’s mental and physical wellbeing. I can’t wait to share the journey with you when we get back.
Moto Expo Adelaide
Next weekend we’re hosting a two-day motorcycle festival MotoExpo Adelaide at Published Arthouse featuring vintage and custom motorcycles from across Australia, a cinema running motorcycle films including the Australian exclusive launch of Oil in the Blood, auctions and raffles.
